- Business development strategic planning is a high stakes game. You get it right and you are set for strong growth. Neglect it or don't give it much attention, you have most likely set yourself up for stress and struggle. I know that because I learned this lesson firsthand, the hard way. When I started my business 20 years ago, I knew what I wanted to do, how to structure my business, and luckily for me, I knew how to sell. So for the first year of my business, my business development strategy consisted of me getting on the phone, and making phone calls, attending a few networking events, and doing anything I could to land a client or two just so I could pay the bills.
