- Scope is a big collaboration point for PMs and BAs; I can't stress this enough. A big part of managing scope between PMs and BAs is understanding the difference between project scope and product scope. Teams often focus on the project scope and not enough on the product scope. The project scope includes the work to be done to deliver the project. Things like tasks, deliverables, resources, constraints, and milestones. But the product scope is what lives on after the project is completed. It's not the work to create it, but the features, functions, qualities, user needs and goals that the product addresses. The product scope is part of an input to the project scope. Peyton the PM is focused on the project scope and Blair the BA provides input with the product scope. Missing or unclear product scope impacts schedule, resources and budget.
