Top tips to improve business analysis communication
- I'm convinced that excellent communication skills will always be highly sought-after. To increase your marketability as a business analyst, I'd like to share some top tips I've collected and applied myself over the years. Tip number one. Don't adopt a one-size-fits-all approach to communication. I was on a project once where the lead analyst provided a very detailed readout of requirements to upper management. Nothing was summarized. It was a presentation well-suited for process workers, but not executives. The presentation wasn't well-received and the backlash was harsh. Executives lost face in the BA team from this one failed interaction. Here's some suggestions to avoid making the same mistake yourself. Always elicit the communication preferences of your stakeholders versus making assumptions. Solicit feedback about your approach and be willing to make adjustments to how you're communicating, and use a variety of channels such as Wiki's, Messenger, face-to-face meetings, formal…
