- Respect isn't optional on a team. Without it, trust breaks down fast and the cycle of trust we're trying to build reverses into a vicious loop of distrust. And if you feel like your team is in a distrust loop, then you're not alone. In 2014, researchers, Christine Porath and Tony Schwartz surveyed over 20,000 employees worldwide. Their findings were staggering. 54% said they didn't regularly receive respect from their leaders, and that lack of respect had massive consequences. When employees felt respected, their engagement skyrocketed, 55% higher to be exact. They reported 89% greater satisfaction with their work, 92% more focus and 56% better wellbeing in health.
