Time management is a mirror
- People sometimes ask me what good time management is. They imagine it's about having the perfect to-do app, being always punctual, or doing a lot more in less time, but those are just outcomes of time management, if you want those outcomes. Ultimately though, it's about what you want, your values, your beliefs, and your philosophy play a huge role in this. If I had to define time management, it would be very simple. Can you look at your schedule and say, with all honesty, that that's a faithful reflection of what you want out of life. It's really just that, living your life hour by hour in a way that fits what you want. There's decades of research on what makes a life meaningful, and it really boils down to three things. First, coherence, the idea that your life makes sense. Things are organized, connected into a whole rather than, you know, chaotic and all over the place. Second, there's purpose. The idea that your actions are oriented towards some goals that you value. Third, significance. The idea that your life serves something important, something bigger than you. Like taking care of a child or fighting for a cause you believe in, and that's exactly what time management is all about. What can help your life have more coherence? Be more organized rather than chaotic. Time management, of course. What is time management? If not making sure that your time is used in the service of some goals. And finally, what's the point of time management? If you didn't believe that your time itself, your life itself is significant. Before we end this course, I want to leave you with a challenge. Take a look at your schedule for next week. Is it a true reflection of what matters most to you? If not, what one change could you make tomorrow to bring your time management more in line with your values? Remember, the tools and techniques we've covered in this course are not just about getting more done, they're about making sure that what you're getting done really matters to you. Thank you for joining me on this journey to better time management. Now go forth and make your time count.
