- Not everything will be perfect in building a diverse professional network. Things change, people come and go, and needs shift and not everyone has the right intentions. I have experienced it firsthand. There have been times when people simply didn't respond when I've reached out or they didn't follow through on something they said they would do. I learned not to take it personally and I moved on. There were times when people in my network took advantage of my relationship by dropping my name for their benefit when they really didn't know me that well, or hadn't asked for my permission. Some constantly asked for my time and services with no consideration or return on value. And some people have overstepped their boundaries and not kept the relationship professional.
