What is a stay culture?
- Imagine for a minute all of your organization, department, team, and even individual goals are out there in the future with a road leading towards accomplishing them. Now the pace at which we travel down that road, reaching milestones and producing results, depends on the vehicle in which we're traveling in. For our work, that vehicle is our team culture and the strength of our culture is what makes it possible to navigate around potholes, rough terrain, cross ravines, and produce extraordinary results. Now, it would be great if we could just put up posters with a picture of rowers that says "Teamwork!" And our people would magically work better together. But as you know, it doesn't work that way because culture is actually a conversation that gets generated by the things that we talk about and the actions we take each day. As soon as we stop having those key conversations, the brakes start to grind, the engine starts to sputter, and the wheels fall off. Or better said, people spend less time working, more time fighting, and good people end up leaving. As a leader, you have the challenging but amazing opportunity to lead your team to design, build, and maintain a stay-culture. Now, I want to be clear from the start. Having a stay-culture does not mean that the goal is that people never leave our teams. Some people won't be a fit and great people doing great work with others are going to get noticed. They're going to get called to bigger opportunities in your organization and others. But when they leave for better opportunities, they stay connected, part of your network. They recommend people to your team because they know it's a great place to work. Now every team is going to be at a different place. You may have been leading your team for years and just need ideas to help take it to the next level. Or you may be a new leader joining an existing team or part of a whole new team that's just getting started. No matter where you are, I have designed this course to help you have the most important conversations and give you the tools to make having them just a little bit easier. I've also designed this course so you could watch it all the way through once and then come back for a quick refresher on the conversations you need most at the moment. In the handouts, I've included a team assessment, questions you can use in your meetings, and other tools to help you along the way. And if you have specific questions, feel free to ask them in the Q and A tab on the course page. Now let's jump into building a culture people don't want to leave.
