- Let's move on to taking a look at the actual production stage. Remember, the production stage is when the shoot actually occurs. In this case, it was a two-day shoot for the nonprofit client. A lot of things were provided to us which really helped us keep the budget lower. Some of the on-camera talent, most of the locations, and this really helped us save money because it was a nonprofit. For this particular project, our client decided to use non-union actors. This is partially because they're a nonprofit and they were looking to spend a bit less on their budget. They were also unsure of their distribution plans for the public service announcement. Often, if you're hiring union actors, you'll need to negotiate their rate based upon where the commercial's going to play.
