Determining scope

- In our previous example, we talked about a simple process, where we set objectives and then measure if we'd accomplished them. Well, that's really the scoping process. If you don't know the objectives of the project, you can't really achieve the goal. Now, I recommend that you put together a scoping document, and I'm providing a simple outline here. You might not have each of these elements in your project, but I recommend you try to cover as many of these as possible. Writing this out for a project will take somewhere between two and 16 hours, depending upon how big it is. And if you've done it right, it will be somewhere between a two and a 10 page document. What it does is clearly explain the project. This is useful because it effectively becomes a charter for everyone, a clear written definition of what success is and what has to be accomplished in order for the stakeholders or clients to be happy.
