- Contractors were some of the first ones to push for BIM. And, in fact, today a majority of large contractors are using BIM. Smaller firms often have more difficulty investing in training or new tools. Some also just don't feel the need. But I am not getting into that subject again. By now, hopefully, you're all believers in the benefit that BIM brings to projects of all size. One of the most important benefits from BIM is derived from the close coordination that can be achieved when all major subcontractors use the building model for detailing their portion of work. This enables accurate clash detection and correction of clashes before they became a problem inside. This is why contractors and owners should also include subcontractors and fabricators in their BIM efforts. The traditional design-bid-build delivery process could contribute significantly to the project during the design phases, when contractors, subcontractors and fabricators work closely with the design team.
