We all know that wonderful, amazing, and even delightful things can happen as a result of the work in big data and AI. And those things can happen because those systems are amazingly powerful. But, as to be expected, power also brings potential risks. And with those risks, laws that try to minimize the risks while allowing the wonderful parts. Now, laws fall into two general categories that I want to talk about here. The first one is laws for big data. And they address things like how the data is collected and privacy, confidentiality, and the nature of algorithmic decisions, especially when they affect people in meaningful ways. There are also more recent laws that are specific to AI that address issues about trust and safety and accountability. want to address each of these in a little more detail.
