- Just like Michelangelo carving David, some mentors approach mentoring as if they can shape and mold their mentee into their vision. Let me be clear here. This is the wrong approach. You cannot mold your mentee into something they are not. And they could not and should not be mimicking your career. If you want to be an inspiring mentor, you cannot approach mentoring like you're creating cookie cutter mentees. Your mentee is their own person with their own dreams, wishes, and goals. In this video, I'll share with you a three-step process to support your mentee, to set achievable milestones so they can reach their goals. Before we dive in, I want to clarify an important point. It is not your job as a mentor to come up with a plan for your mentee. Instead, it's critical that you insist your mentee have their own goals and plans.
