What is software as a service (SaaS)?

- [Instructor] Software as a service, S-A-A-S, or SaaS, is a hugely successful part of cloud computing. It is on demand access to ready-to-use, cloud-hosted application software. Think of it as a subscription based model where the software is hosted in the cloud and accessed via the internet. Keeping your family pictures in Google Photos is a smart use of a cloud service, so is saving your Garden Club files on Dropbox or OneDrive. Your files are safely stored in another location accessible from many devices and locations. They are easy to share with other people, and the cloud service manages backups and security. Software as a service is a way of defining centrally hosted applications over the internet as a service. SaaS applications are sometimes called on-demand software, web-based software, or hosted software. For most SaaS applications, you simply access it via the internet, usually through a browser.
