- [Instructor] Defense in depth is a layered approach to securing the overall cloud resources by providing multiple layers of protection. Network security group, popularly known as NSG, come in handy to filter the incoming and outgoing network traffic. You can think of NSGs like an internal firewall. An NSG can contain multiple inbound and outbound security rules that enable you to filter traffic to and from resources by source and destination IP address, ports and protocols. NSGs can be associated at the NIC level of a VM. It can also be associated to a subnet depending on the network architecture requirements. It is also important to note that same network security group can be associated to as many subnets and network interfaces as you choose.
