Cost optimization scenario, part 2
- Now that we've identified our choices for compute solutions and recognize that EFS is going to work with all of them, now it's time to talk about autoscaling. And when I first put this scenario together, I was basing my own experience on material that I'd learned a long time ago. When I first started teaching AWS material maybe a decade ago, I had learned pretty early on that, yes, you can autoscale according to the number of messages in a message queue. And I had always thought of it as just that straightforward. However, what we learn if we do that in real life is that scaling based on a discrete number of messages in the queue where let's say you scale out when there's more than 100 messages, you scale in when there's less than 25, or something like that, that does not work on the extremes. It does not work for very small numbers of messages. It does not work for very large numbers of messages. And so we have to put extra effort into coming up with a new metric that will work at…
