Understanding link aggregation groups (LAG) in AWS Direct Connect

Hello everyone! In this lesson, we're going to talk about link aggregation groups or LAG in AWS Direct Connect. If you're new to networking, don't worry, we'll go through it step by step so you can fully understand what LAG is and why it's useful. Before we talk about LAG, let's quickly recap Direct Connect. AWS Direct Connect gives you a dedicated private network link from your on-premises environment to AWS. It's faster, more stable and ideal for workloads that need consistent performance. What is LAG? LAG stands for Link Aggregation Group. It simply means combining multiple physical direct connect links into one bigger logical connection. Instead of managing several connections separately, AWS groups them into a single unit. There are three big reasons why LAG is important. First, higher bandwidth, because multiple links work together. Second, resiliency. If one link fails, traffic continues flowing through the others.…
