- [Instructor] Let's now talk about Reserved Instances. This type of instance purchasing model provides you with significant savings on your Amazon EC2 cost compared to on demand instance pricing. A Reserved Instance is like a middle ground between an on-demand and a spot instance. Just like on demand a reserved instance is also recommended for mission critical applications with uninterruptible workloads, but in terms of pricing, it is cheaper than on demand and only costs a little more than a spot instance. It also has its own market too, like the Spot Instance option, which is called the Reserved Instance marketplace. The advantage of using Reserved Instance is its capability to provide a discount over on demand pricing and the option to allow customers to reserve capacity in an availability zone that you choose.
