- [Instructor] Virtualization is an integral part of Amazon EC2. It allows AWS to generate hundreds of virtual servers from a single physical server that can be used by its customers around the world. AWS also manages how a single virtual machine or an EC2 instance is allocated to a specific customer. There's a lot of information that needs to be allocated to the instance, such as its network information, device mapping, security credentials, and so on and so forth. Just like a manifest of a ship that contains a consolidated list of all the cargo on board, AWS also has a system in place to add a sort of a manifest to each and every virtual machine. For every EC2 instance that's instantiated by their physical server, AWS adds its manifest-like metadata that contains all the related technical information about the instance.
