- [Instructor] Capacity reservation is another type of instance purchasing option in Amazon EC2. Basically, it allows you to reserve capacity for your EC2 instances in a specific availability zone for any duration. This is independent of the billing discounts offered by savings plans or regional reserved instances. It works like a reserved instance in the sense that it can reserve capacity for a particular availability zone without the hassle of getting into a one year or three year-term commitment. You can create or cancel the reservation you made at any time. Another key difference is its scope. In capacity reservation, you can only reserve an availability zone but not the entire AWS region. You can also apply this on your on-demand instances. The on-demand capacity reservation ensures that you always have access to EC2 capacity when you need it.
