Amazon supports many compliance standards, including ISO 27001, which they use themselves internally to build all of their cloud infrastructure. This is a security management standard, and there are specific best practices and security controls that you have to follow. And how do they know that you're following them? Well, they audit you. So they audit Amazon every year and say they're doing a good job, here's a report. You, as a customer, can read that report and see if you agree with the auditors. I would bet Amazon has 20 or 30 different compliance standards that they adhere to, so they're getting audited 30 times a year.
