Monitoring and reporting
- Monitoring and reporting functions play essential roles in ensuring effective implementation and maintenance of data governance. While they're distinct capabilities, they do overlap, and each can be thought of as the different sides of the same coin. Specifically, the role of monitoring is to ensure that data-related processes, policies, and controls are tracked and followed. And reporting serves as a way to provide visibility and accountability to those same areas. Let's look at each individually, and then I'll discuss their role in DataGovOps. With monitoring, we're interested in understanding the degree to which data governance functions are followed. For example, we want to know how well we're adhering to data compliance and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA or the European Union's General Data Protection Rules, or GDPR.
