- Have you ever tried to find a specific data set at your work? You might get lucky and a colleague has the details you need, or you might be sent a link that points you directly to it. Then when you finally find and get access to the data set, do you know, for example, whether it's current, who maintains it, and how it's used? These all seem like reasonable needs, but sadly, finding and understanding data sets continues to be a source of struggle for stakeholders in too many businesses. Data catalogs are one proven approach to managing an organization's inventory of data assets. Like the term suggests, a data catalog is a centralized and searchable repository that lists details on data sets.
