- [Instructor] As you learned earlier, surfaces are a fundamental part of the Civil 3D model and serve many functions. For that reason, we need to derive a surface from our corridor. Let's see how that's done. Before we dive in, I want to take you into the help and I want to talk about some of the detailed information that's stored within a subassembly. So let's do that. I'll click the help icon up here in the top right corner. And if you remember, our lane subassembly is called basic lane transition. I'll type that in the search field and you'll see the very top link is that basic lane transition. As we scroll down through, you can see there's lots of information assigned to this subassembly and I want to talk about how subassemblies are kind of broken down.
