- [Instructor] The rubber hose style is instantly recognizable. It's dominated by round forms, and you'll rarely see pointy elbows. Note the black body and the head and the white mouth muzzle, so these kind of shapes are very common. So we have one of my modern replicas with the mouth shapes again, rather round banana type forms, no sharp right angles anywhere. Sometimes, the eyes were donned as pie eyes, as little pizza slices, and the very common style feature of the period. Now, the reasons for this weren't just simply fashion. It's easier to animate round forms than angular ones, and at this early stage of the industry, many animators were still learning. Now, compare the right here character with the more modern styles, which have very complex contrasting shapes, and which are far harder to draw and animate.
