Step 5: Draw conclusions
- Listen to the story that data wants to tell you, and don't let your intuition alone lead you astray. Using data analysis and interpretations, you can draw strong conclusions based on evidence. Continuing with an analytical mindset, step five of the six-step process involves drawing conclusions. Here, you'll be asking yourself: What underlying narrative has the data unveiled? Considering the patterns you've found, what do they mean? What are the root causes or effects of the data on the problem you are investigating? As you brainstorm, be sure to keep an open mind, staying receptive to all possibilities that may arise. Consider not just the first conclusion that pops to mind when reviewing your analysis, but also alternative explanations and perspectives. Involve others in the process too to support or debunk your proposals. As well, be skeptical. Don't let the data mislead you.
