There are inherent biases that could directly impact patient care and threaten to limit its incredible potential. Despite ongoing efforts in both academia and industry to understand and mitigate the bias challenges posed by generative AI, the stakes are exceptionally high in healthcare, where there's no room for error. AI and healthcare has faced challenges of bias long before generative AI systems. One example was published in science where researchers found that an AI model prioritized a White patient over a Black patient, even when their health risks were identical.
