Reserved Instances are not a specific instance type, but rather a billing discount applied to the use of On-Demand instances. With Reserved Instances, you have a term commitment. Reserved Instances can be purchased for a tenure of one year or three years. When Reserved Instances expire at the end of the tenure, you go back to paying on-demand rates. With Reserved Instances, you have three payment options, all upfront, partial upfront, and no upfront.
