- [Instructor] The next purchasing option is Reserved Instances. Reserved Instances provide significant discounts on EC2 usage when you commit to a one year or three year term. Reserved Instances are not a specific instance type, but rather a billing discount applied to the use of On-Demand instances. With Reserved Instances, you have a term commitment. Reserved Instances can be purchased for a tenure of one year or three years. When Reserved Instances expire at the end of the tenure, you go back to paying on-demand rates. With Reserved Instances, you have three payment options, all upfront, partial upfront, and no upfront. With all upfront, full payment is made at the start of the term with no other costs or additional hourly charges incurred for the remainder of the term regardless of the hours used.
