- [Instructor] Now, one question that comes up all the time when people talk to me about algorithmic trading is, "Gee, I'm really interested in this space. How do I get a job in it?" Well, algorithmic trading is a great role to begin. The field has grown dramatically, it tends to be lucrative, and the future looks bright, but you need to understand algorithmic trading as a career before you jump in. So first of all, what is it that algorithmic traders do? Well, the reality is that in most cases that I've seen, and in my previous experience in the industry, typically a finance guy gets paired up with a computer programmer CS guy, and essentially the finance guy's role is to conceptualize possible strategies to come up with what's the theory that we're trying to capitalize on or trade on.
