- [Instructor] I often enjoy taking potentially complex topics and arriving at their essential, stable core truths. While this course doesn't address any major, complex, or difficult-to-understand topics, it still makes sense to ensure we are referring to the same thing when talking about governance. And, more importantly, that you are aligned in your meaning within the organization that you are part of. Boiled down to its essence, governance is the assignment of roles and responsibilities to decision-makers, and the accountability for those decisions. ISO/IEC 38507 sets the focus of governance by referring to ISO 37000, Governance of Organizations-Guidance. "The governing body is the level of top leadership in the organization, and its primary purpose is to direct, oversee, and be accountable for achieving the organization's defined purpose."
