- If you've taken the time to cut a photo into several layers, After Effects has a variety of tools and camera movements you can use to make them seem like they are almost footage. Let's see how we can animate a photo with multiple layers. So there are actually two compositions for this movie for you to take a look at. Chapter 3_4 Example 1 and 2. And this is just showing different photo cutout treatments. This was a film I worked on, a Johnny Cash documentary called, My Father and the Man in Black. And the process was we took a bunch of photos into Photoshop after scanning them. On some of these photos we did some minimal cleanup because we wanted to keep that sort of style that this was a movie and documentary based on Johnny Cash's period in the 60's and 70's. And then after performing some small restoration techniques, as well as cloning the areas of a photograph to keep a background, we brought in the layers into Photoshop and did some animation.
