Overriding materials
- Now that we have these extreme 3D extruded text, we can make it more appealing, by modifying its textures. Now, we can't use pixel based images for texturing inside after effects, with the built-in cinema, for the renderer. But we do have an option to override the front, bevel, side, and back materials or colors. And we can achieve that, using a simple Text Animator. So before doing it, a bit of a housekeeping here, I'm going to click and hold on these grid options. I'm going to dismiss the title and action safe. And now I'll return back to the same menu. So click and hold, and dismiss this 3D reference accessed, because we don't need it, in this case. This is our main 3D object and we don't need to be bothered with this little gizmo, at the edge of the screen. Alright, so now I'll select the text again, and I'll open up its settings. I'll close the geometry options, and then I'll click and hold near the word, animate, on this little play icon. And over here, you will see four different things. You can adjust the front, bevel, side, and back materials. So I'll go directly to the side material that I want to edit, and then I'll choose color and I'll select RGB. And by default, it will apply this bright red color. After I will take something from the image. So I'll use this eyedropper and just click somewhere over here to sample this, sea color. Now, if there's a need, you can also override the other side of this 3D text with different colors, as well as even animate them, using this Range Selector. So this is basically a Text Animator. And just to illustrate it, I can start to drag on the start and you can see that basically, what I'm doing is revealing only the color for the side of the extrusion. But in this case, I just want to replace the entire side color with this pale blue. And we are going to leave all the animation stuff for the next chapter. This is the only treatment I want to apply to this text. Now, it may look a bit dull and to show you how to improve the appearance of this text, I'm going to meet you in the next movie.
