Preflighting documents
- Have you ever wanted a wing man when you're using Adobe InDesign? A wing man that will basically tell you, on the spot, every single time you would make a technical mistake. Of course, we've had conversations with our printers before where the printer might say, "There is a technical issue with the PDF you just sent me." And then you might be thinking, "Well, it looks great on screen. What might be the issue?" Well, that's exactly the problem that we're trying to solve here in this chapter. So what we can do is we can set up a certain system, where we just basically choose the profile that we would like to use here, for printing this particular file here. And it will tell me which mistakes I have made here live in the document. And the cool thing is I get to decide the rules as well. For example, if I were to close this text frame here, it will automatically tell me here, that there is text that is overset. It tells me exactly how many characters. And if I click this link here, it will actually even zoom into that text frame. And they will select that for me as well. So, what we're going to do in this chapter is you're going to set up something called a preflight profile, which is a set of technical requirements and rules in order to keep this document properly formatted and optimized for the output that we choose. Let's get going.
