- [Woman] Some 3D printers have the ability to print in multiple materials. You might want to do this to combine materials with different properties, like using a mix of rigid and flexible materials. You also need a printer that supports at least two materials, if you want to use soluble support structures. - [Man] Another popular use is for creating multicolor prints. You can create a model with a few relatively large areas of different colors, but it's not possible to create full photographic color by combining different filament colors. Creating that type of detailed color requires binder jetting or some other process that involves inkjet deposition of colors. The colors you can print with filament are limited to the colors you load into the printer. How many colors you can use depends on what type of multi-filament system you're using.
