- [Instructor] Bioprinting is a fairly broad term that takes in many different 3D printing techniques. Most generally, it's using one of several 3D printing techniques to print something that's meant to be part of a living thing or perhaps stand in for one. Some companies use their machines in-house to produce tissues for researchers. There are other companies that primarily sell printers and associated supplies across a wide range of price points. The core difference between conventional 3D printing and bioprinting, according to Erik Gatenholm, the co-founder and CEO of BICO, is that there's an entire process chain involved before and after creation of a print that's necessary to care for a living product. All 3D printer users wish their printer was faster, but in the case of bioprinting, speed is essential.
