The MQTT or Message Queuing Telemetry Transport protocol is a very popular option for data movement at the edge. The OASIS organization established the MQTT standard back in 1993. This organization, in addition to the protocol's longevity, have greatly contributed to its popularity. The OASIS members such as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, and others have helped to establish global standards. These standards help with the adoption of specs like MQTT. Global standards also make it easier to maintain compatibility between different implementations of the MQTT spec.
