The importance of defining your purpose
- In the previous lesson, we saw why it's important to write something only when you can say hand on your heart, that what you have to say is worthwhile to your anticipated readers. Once you're satisfied that what you're writing will have value to your readers, you'll need to shift the perspective, and begin to look at what you, rather than your readers will gain from writing it. You do this simply by being clear on your purpose, by understanding why you're writing this particular text. And whether you're composing website copy, some content marketing, a technical manual, some kind of official communication or anything else, being clear on your purpose will help make sure that what you're writing is impactful.
