How to ask better questions
- Asking better questions can really heighten self-awareness and help us address brain bias. What are the best kinds of questions to ask? Certainly open-ended questions get us more information, but there are some other things that you can be thinking about. If you're too attached to your initial answer, you may refuse to let it go no matter where the data leads, but if you treat your own answer lightly and hold your assumptions loosely, you'll be willing to abandon it if needed. This sounds simple, but the key to great questions is active listening. Active listening is the process of understanding, really understanding what another person is saying and showing that you are engaged and interested. Successful active listening allows you to fully grasp an argument and making it easier to question its logic. When you begin your inquiry into anything, avoid asking yes or no questions.
