Rotating objects in reference coordinate systems
- [Instructor] In the previous movie, we saw how to choose a reference coordinate system for the move tool. Now let's take a look at the rotate tool. I'll choose select and rotate from its button on the main toolbar. And just as with the move tool, the default reference coordinate system is view. We will rotate around the reference frame of the current viewport. If I select this chair group in the top viewport and click on the blue circle, I'm rotating around the world Z axis, which corresponds to the line of sight of the top viewport. I go over to the front view, right click in that view, we will see that the orientation of the rotate gizmo does not necessarily correspond. In the front view, the red axis here is, that's the X axis of rotation. It's perpendicular to the X axis indicated here by the axis tripod in the lower left, which again, is the orientation of the world coordinate system.
