Defining polygon level of detail

I want to talk about level of detail for polygon objects such as this monitor stand. Level of detail is sometimes confused with fidelity but they're not the same thing. Fidelity refers to how well a 3D model resembles a real object. But level of detail simply refers to the density of that model. How many sub-objects or components does it have? And adding more components or sub-objects such as polygons does not necessarily improve the fidelity. Let's take a look at this. I've got my monitor stand selected. I'll go to the Modify panel. And we have a box that's being tapered and bent. Let's go to the Box Parameters. And as we saw previously, we can change up the length segments to improve the curvature along the length of the box. Currently, I've got a value of 40. And zoomed in pretty tight here in the left view, we can see it's kind of segmented. If we reduce the length segments, it gets more blocky. If we increase the length segments, it gets smoother and rounder. Set that back to a…
