General Counsel - Commercial Real Estate Attorney

A long-established, family-owned company is seeking a General Counsel - Commercial Real Estate in Great Neck, New York. This is a rare opportunity to step into a stable, long-term in-house role with a company known for exceptional employee retention and a collaborative, family-oriented culture.

The company has been in business for over 45 years, and the current attorney is retiring after more than 20 years with the organization. Remarkably, this role has only been held by three or four attorneys throughout the company’s history.

Position Overview

This attorney will primarily focus on commercial leasing matters for the company’s real estate portfolio while also handling a variety of related real estate and operational matters as needed. The role works closely with ownership and executive leadership, including the company’s co-presidents.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial leases
• Handle tenant defaults and leasing disputes
• Review and negotiate brokerage agreements
• Advise on non-compete and other general real estate matters
• Manage a high volume of active matters simultaneously
• Work directly with ownership and internal business teams on day-to-day leasing and operational issues

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of commercial real estate experience
• Open to candidates from both law firm and in-house backgrounds
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills
• Ability to manage numerous active matters and shift priorities throughout the day
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Practical, business-minded approach to legal issues
