Controller – Hybrid Schedule


About the Opportunity

Our client, a growing real estate and property operations organization, is seeking a Controller to lead its accounting and financial reporting functions. This highly visible leadership role will oversee accounting operations, internal controls, financial planning support, and team development while partnering closely with executive leadership to drive operational excellence and support continued growth.


The ideal candidate is a strategic yet hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a dynamic environment and has experience managing complex, multi-entity accounting operations.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain strong internal controls
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Establish accounting best practices and process consistency
  • Provide guidance on technical accounting and financial reporting matters
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning
  • Monitor financial performance, cash flow, and key operating metrics
  • Provide financial analysis to support business decisions, growth initiatives, and acquisitions
  • Coordinate external audits and manage relationships with auditors and tax advisors
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial regulations
  • Oversee third-party accounting relationships and financial systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, and operational efficiencies


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams
  • 2+ years of experience in multifamily property accounting
  • Experience with Yardi
