A leading U.S. Independent Power Producer with a proven solar and battery storage platform is building a dedicated data center business unit. The company is seeking an executive (CEO, CCO or something similar) to lead the commercial strategy, development, construction oversight, and operational build-out of this new vertical from the ground up. This person would essentially run the data center business for this organization.
This is a principal-level leadership role with full P&L ownership and a mandate to stand up a scalable data center infrastructure business that leverages the company's existing energy development capabilities, power supply positioning, and project execution track record.
Scope of the Role
The CCO will own the full lifecycle of the data center business unit, including:
Originating and structuring data center development opportunities, including site selection, power procurement strategy, and offtake/tenant arrangements
Overseeing design and construction of data center facilities, including critical infrastructure such as power distribution, cooling systems, redundancy architecture, and connectivity
Building and managing relationships with hyperscalers, colocation tenants, and enterprise compute customers
Defining the compute strategy, including infrastructure sizing, GPU/CPU deployment considerations, and alignment with AI, cloud, and high-performance computing demand trends
Leading operational readiness, including facilities management, uptime performance, SLA frameworks, and ongoing tenant relationship management
Collaborating with the existing energy development and asset management teams to integrate behind-the-meter and front-of-meter power solutions into the data center strategy
Building the team, vendor ecosystem, and commercial processes required to scale the business unit
Ideal Profile
Senior commercial or operational executive with direct experience in data center development, construction, and/or operations
Demonstrated ability to originate and close complex infrastructure transactions
Understanding of data center mechanical, electrical, and networking infrastructure
Familiarity with compute demand drivers, including AI/ML workloads, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise hosting
Experience working within or alongside energy, power, or infrastructure platforms is highly valued
Comfort operating in a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment with private equity or institutional backing
Strong commercial instincts with the ability to build a business unit from inception through scale
