$50.00/hr - $75.00/hr

Job Title: R&D Automation Controls Engineer

Start: ASAP – 2 WEEKS UPON ACCEPTING OFFER

End date: 12/31/26 likely to extend

Location: Indianapolis, IN

Remote flexibility: On site 5 days/week 100% potential for hybrid after first few months

Hours: 40 hours/week

Pay Rate: $50-75/hour

Interviews: 2 rounds, virtual & on site team panel

MUST-HAVES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required and at least 5 years of experience in industrial PLC control and automation systems integration
  • Experience with control system design and fabrication, including programming of PLCs from scratch (Allen Bradley, Rockwell)
  • Experience with SCADA systems integration and automation
  • Experience with structured coding (Python preferred) and Ignition HMI
  • Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects simultaneously.

PLUSSES:

  • Inductive Ignition experience is highly desired
  • Background in manufacturing is desired

RESPONSIBILITIES:

One of Insight Global’s large Agricultural Sciences companies is looking for a proactive business partner-centric R&D Automation Controls Engineer to join the team located in the Indianapolis, Indiana area. The team is dedicated to the successful conception, design, development, integration, and support of novel machines and instruments, scientific laboratory automation, and other enabling technologies. The qualified candidate will be responsible for implementing robust custom PLC and HMI solutions for process control and data acquisition for R&D automation projects, emphasizing system integration and safe process control. This role requires hands-on experience with Rockwell system design and integration, SCADA/IIoT platforms, and electrical design and fabrication for implementing custom process solutions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Perform process mapping and optimization on existing controls schema
  • Develop custom machine control system changes (process improvement, restructuring control software, etc.)
  • Prepare process flow diagrams, schematics, and other project documentation
  • Analyze equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine appropriate designs
  • Collaborate with external vendors to identify, evaluate, and integrate their hardware and technologies into Corteva processes
  • Assist in installation and validation of equipment into service
