About the Role

Seeking an innovative and motivated Applications Scientist to join a growing Technical team. This role focuses on dietary supplement and functional food product development, supporting projects from concept through commercialization.

The Applications Scientist collaborates closely with Sales, Production, Regulatory, and Supply Chain teams to develop custom formulations, prepare prototypes, and support new product launches for customers.

Depending on experience and qualifications, the position may be filled at either the Applications Scientist I or Applications Scientist II level. This is an excellent opportunity for scientists who enjoy combining formulation science, customer collaboration, and product innovation in a fast-moving nutraceutical environment.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Innovation

• Design and develop custom formulations for dietary supplements and functional food products
• Prepare prototype samples and conduct developmental testing
• Perform sensory evaluation and product optimization
• Evaluate ingredient functionality and assist with raw material qualification
• Support pilot runs, scale-up, and first production launches

Customer & Sales Collaboration

• Partner with the Sales team to support new product ideation and customer innovation projects
• Participate in technical customer meetings and consultations
• Develop formulation concepts and technical documentation for customer proposals

Formulation Costing & Commercial Support

• Perform formulation costing and quote preparation
• Identify cost optimization opportunities through ingredient sourcing and formulation improvements
• Support inventory and logistics considerations during product development

Regulatory & Technical Documentation

• Prepare and maintain R&D documentation including Preliminary Product Specifications (PPS), ingredient qualification documentation, and packaging qualification records
• Support development of food safety plans and regulatory documentation
• Assist with label review and supplement facts panels

Cross-Functional Technical Support

• Provide technical support to Production, QA/QC, Regulatory, and Logistics teams
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to formulation and product development

Application Lab Support

• Maintain ingredient and sample inventory for formulation work
• Ensure proper organization and maintenance of the application laboratory
• Support lab equipment calibration and documentation

Qualifications

Education Bachelor's degree or higher in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Technology, or a related scientific field

Experience

Applications Scientist I

• 1+ year of experience in food or dietary supplement product development

Applications Scientist II

• 3–5+ years of experience in dietary supplement or functional food formulation
• Experience managing product development projects from concept to commercialization

Desired Skills

• Knowledge of dietary supplement and functional food formulation
• Experience with powder blends, drink mixes, capsules, tablets, or functional ingredients
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent organization and project management skills
• Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
