We kicked off Elastic{ON} San Francisco with a packed room and a big announcement today: Elastic Agent Builder is now available in technical preview on Elastic Cloud in serverless! 🚀 Exciting, helpful launch for AWS #FinOps practitioners today: we're integrating cur.vantage.sh into the Vantage console. Now, whenever you're viewing a Cost Report or a Resource page, you'll have direct links to the relevant pages on cur.vantage.sh to help explain what the AWS billing actually is in simplistic terms. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cost and Usage Report contains tens of thousands of distinct billing codes that are oftentimes pretty opaquely named or confusing. FinOps practitioners may have learned what they mean over the years in bits and pieces but engineering, finance and management counterparts who were being invited to the Vantage console viewing these reports may have been left a bit in the dark trying to make sense of what they meant. We recently launched cur.vantage.sh which is a community tool that acts as a dictionary for AWS billing codes and as of today its directly integrated into the Vantage console. The reason playbook companies like Redis, Wiz, Rubrik, Harness, Navan, Dataiku, Airtable, MongoDB, Checkmarx, Sigma, Coralogix, Datadog (and many more) are so effective is because... They sell solutions, not products. The challenge in sales today is that too many reps walk into meetings focused on pitching their product—without a clear understanding of the problem they need to solve. What solves a problem? A solution. A sales person needs to diagnose a problem or pain a customer is experiencing before presenting a product. The best way to do this is to deeply understand your prospect in as much detail as possible so you can present to them your POV on their situation. This way, you are either validating the potential problem with the customer or building a hypothesis WITH them. If you cannot effectively diagnose a problem or pain that a prospect is experiencing, you will end up just pushing product, which will results in no deal or small deals.

As I'm leaving AWS re:Invent in Vegas, I’m reminded of a counterintuitive truth: competing with the public clouds is often really good business VCs love to ask, “Why wouldn’t the incumbent do this?” But in markets this large (and evolving this quickly) that’s rarely the right question. The real questions are: Who can assemble the best team, get to market fastest and with the most focus? And where are there opportunities to partner with the biggest players rather than compete? We’ve seen this pattern repeat across the ecosystem: -People assumed Vercel and AWS were destined to compete. Today, they’re strategic partners with CEO Guillermo Rauch in the keynote -Snowflake vs. Amazon Redshift. Now, AWS is one of Snowflake’s strongest distribution channels -In Datadog’s early pitches, the concern was, “If it’s just monitoring AWS, why not use CloudWatch?” Fast forward to now, and Datadog is now $50B+ public company We’re going to see the same dynamics play out with OpenAI and Anthropic. These are becoming foundational platforms. But that doesn’t preclude incredible companies from being built on, next to, and even around them. Some will look competitive. Many will end up as partners. And the biggest outcomes often start in those gray zones
