Cybersecurity in higher education is a moving target, and it keeps moving. Between AI, identity-based attacks, compliance expectations, and the sheer size of our digital footprint, this is not a space where any of us can afford to get too comfortable. I had the chance to share a few thoughts in this new story from UMass Amherst Information Technology about what is changing and what our community should keep in mind. I had a very productive time yesterday a the University Of Delaware Spring Career & Internship Fair 2026! It was a great opportunity to discuss the future of Cybersecurity and IT Management with industry leaders. A huge thank you to the teams at Constellation Steve Flickinger, shanska Thomas Costabile, P.E. Allan Myers and Kleinfelder for the insightful conversations about current infrastructure and energy projects in their respective companies. I also enjoyed learning about public service pathways with Delaware New Castle County Government, Department Of Transportation, Sate of Delaware, City of Philadelphia, the common Wealth of Pennsylvania, Maryland Department Of Transportation and the United State Marines. Our students just achieved a 65% increase in proficiency on the new NYS Biology Regents—a significant jump that reflects fundamental shifts in how we approached NGSS implementation this year. This matters especially because our students are predominantly ENL learners and students with IEPs navigating an extremely reading-heavy assessment. Success required us to build both scientific thinking skills and literacy strategies simultaneously. What drove the improvement: 🔬 Focused professional development on three-dimensional learning and backwards design from Performance Expectations 📊 Phenomena-driven units that built conceptual understanding, not just vocabulary memorization ✍️ Daily practice with Claim-Evidence-Reasoning—teaching students to construct scientific arguments from data 📈 Extensive scaffolds: visual supports, sentence frames, collaborative protocols that gave all learners access to rigorous content 🌍 Continuous data analysis to identify gaps and adjust instruction in real-time A 65% increase demonstrates what's possible when teachers deeply understand standards, design intentional instruction, and refuse to lower expectations for diverse learners. This is exactly true for me too. AI is a tool that educators must use and teach their students too on how to use AI toolbox effectively. Using AI in the classroom is like using a Scientific Calculator to do a complex mathematically calculation for you!

#CSEDWEEK 2025 and Pathways in Technology Early College High School we are in year 15 and more importantly 10 years removed from our first STEM college graduates from The City University of New York City Tech, CUNY in 2015 and first IBM hires. IBM Skillsbuild has partnered with EdTechTeacher and had the great fortune of meeting CEO Tom Driscoll (Fun Fact we both are graduates of Teachers College, Columbia University) https://lnkd.in/eaH9kaGZ Access EdTechTeacher's curated, educator-focused IBM SkillsBuild platform below to explore a wide variety of engaging self-paced courses such as "Teaching Artificial Intelligence" and "Teaching Digital Literacy." I recently met Tom at "Careers in Age of AI" which was hosted by Jennifer Lucia at One Madison the IBM flagship. Rachel Rosen, MDRC "We believe that CTE leaders will be really interested in the positive impact that we're seeing for students who are participating in P-TECH. P-TECH 9-14 students signed up for dual enrollment programs at higher rates, attempting and earning more college credits than the comparison group students by the end of four years in high school". MDRC October 2023 P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success Implementation, Impact, and Cost Findings from the New York City P-TECH 9-14 Schools Evaluation • An evaluation by MDRC, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, examined the first seven P-TECH 9-14 schools in New York City, following students for seven years after they began ninth grade. Rashid Ferrod Davis (member of the design team and founding principal of P-TECH Brooklyn) was among the principals of these seven schools. Two of my former assistant principals are now P-TECH principals in two of the seven schools (2025). New findings in this report indicate that the P-TECH model increased students' postsecondary degree completion, particularly for male students, and boosted internship and dual enrollment rates, even during the pandemic. "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. These impacts for both genders are statistically significant". In parallel, NJSBA elevated AI with dedicated conferences/tracks for district leadership.

At CRIZM, teamwork is everything. CRIZM is run through the Vertically-Integrated Projects program at Stony Brook University. This semester, over 30 CRIZMeers across five teams are building together. Our roster spans freshmen to seniors, working across Core Engineering, Machine Intelligence, UI/UX, Operations, and Outreach. Every team has one lead — a Chief CRIZMeer responsible for coordination, delivery, and documentation — and everyone has a part to play. Everyone, regardless of major, skill level, or experience, contributes to the project as a whole. Everyone has something valuable to offer and something new to learn. SUNY System-Wide AI Initiatives Supporting Teaching, Research & Administration Across the SUNY system, state investments and initiatives like the SUNY INSPIRE Center and new Departments of AI and Society are fostering AI research, scholarship, student internships, and institutional AI tool adoption. This means: AI research access and support for students Faculty development opportunities Systemwide alignment on responsible AI use Institutional research and administrative innovation SUNY’s approach highlights that AI integration is institutional, not just instructional.

As a student in Information Technology and Informatics at Rutgers and someone working in Financial Aid, I’ve seen how outdated digital tools can make it harder for students to succeed. So for my #DCIMCapstone project, I focused on how better digital design and communication can make student portals smarter, simpler, and more empowering. Proud to support graduate students through free tutoring at Montclair State University as a Graduate Assistant & Graduate Peer Tutor in Statistics. Working closely with students on statistical inference, regression modeling, and research design has made one thing clear: Most people don’t struggle with running models. They struggle with interpreting them. They can calculate a p-value. They can generate regression output. But when asked, “What does this actually imply for a decision?” — that’s where the real gap appears. And that gap is exactly where analytics becomes valuable. In our sessions, I focus on: • Translating statistical output into decision-ready insight • Challenging assumptions before trusting model results • Interpreting findings beyond surface-level explanations • Connecting hypothesis testing to practical impact Statistics isn’t about calculations. It’s about judgment. And strong analytical judgment compounds. I recently had the opportunity to present at the New York State Forum — a nonprofit organization dedicated to building collaboration between New York State agencies and private industry around technology and innovation. My session, “Data-Driven Decisions: Building a Culture of Data Literacy for the Modern NYS Workforce,” focused on a simple yet powerful idea: there is often a gap between data and decision-making, and data literacy helps close it. We explored how data structure impacts analysis, common data quality pitfalls, planning before jumping into tools, and the importance of shared definitions and documentation. One key message: You don’t need the most advanced tools to do meaningful data work. You need clarity: about your question, your structure, and your definitions. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share lessons I’ve learned in my role as a Data Analyst with NYS Parks and the Division for Historic Preservation. The engagement and thoughtful questions from attendees made it clear that data literacy is on many teams' minds. Looking forward to continuing the conversation.
