Fintechs never buy credit unions. They can’t. Credit union charters don’t work that way. Control simply can’t be purchased. Fintechs can access a charter through structures like BaaS. They just can’t own one. Which leaves only one direction for deals: credit unions acquiring fintechs. It’s simply regulatory structure. #creditunions #fintech #banking

Why Most Merchants Don't Know They Have a Declines Issue. Did you know that 70% of payment declines are false positives? These are legitimate customers getting rejected by outdated fraud systems. 45% never retry after a failed payment. 42% won't return to your site at all. That means you don't just lose a sale, you lose customers...forever. A few weeks ago, I was asked to look at the decline rates of a company processing $50M company a year, with an 8% false decline rate. This meant they were losing $4M in immediate sales. But the real damage? $20M+ in lifetime customer value. That's enough to fund 40 employees. But most merchants don't even know this is happening. The reason? Most (legacy) PSPs/Acquirers use fraud detection models from the early 2000s. Payment companies, which still can't route around issuers, who are also stuck in their ways. Most of the time, these are simple things, like cross-border transactions that get flagged automatically. And as payments continue to become more complex, with things such as 3DS, cross-border payments, and partial payments, new failure scenarios are rising faster than humans can fix them. In other words, the old systems are working against you. And by lowering fraud thresholds, merchants are just increasing real fraud. And adding more verification kills conversion. However, most merchants accept it as "cost of business." That's expensive thinking. So what's the solution? The easiest steps are: Add multi-acquirer routing, which lets you retry failed payments instantly through different banks. Add network tokenization to instantly improve approval rates by 2-4%. Add geographic optimization to route cards through local acquirers. It's not rocket science. It's just common sense, for today's payments ecosystem, especially with solutions such as IXOPAY, that provide these capabilities out of the box. For merchants, this isn't about acquiring new customers or building new products. It's about collecting revenue that's already yours. Most merchants processing $10M+ with one provider are potentially leaving six figures of revenue on the table. VAMP = Winter is coming! I need to correct a previous post. ChargebackHelp was acquired by Global Payments but there are no immediate policy changes. They will continue supporting higher risk merchant verticals. Apologies to the good folks ChargebackHelp! I do have long term concerns about all the vendors. They have powerful tools to counter chargebacks via Ethoca, Verifi, RDR, etc. Those tools easily cut chargebacks by 50%+. Eliminating chargebacks is only half the equation. What about the new TC40’s? VAMP monitors chargebacks AND TC40’s. Without TC40 countermeasures, the majority of ecommerce merchants are at risk of being terminated. Low, medium and high risk categories.

The banking industry's protests against the crypto national trust banks fell on deaf ears at the OCC. Check out OCC’s summary dismantling of several of BPI's arguments in the Bitgo approval: Argument 1️⃣ 1: OCC lacks the authority to charter the bank. OCC Response: “The OCC is authorized to charter national banks pursuant to the National Bank Act, 12 USC 21-27.” Argument 2️⃣ : “The OCC and the Bank did not provide an appropriate amount of information or give a sufficient amount of time for the public to have an opportunity to meaningfully comment on the Application.” OCC Response: “The Bank filed all required publicly available information on a timely basis….the OCC followed its established policies and procedures.” Argument 3️⃣ : Stablecoin issuance by a national trust bank constitutes the acceptance of a “deposit” and requires that a national trust bank obtain FDIC insurance. OCC Response: “The OCC and state law permit nondepository, uninsured institutions to issue stablecoins. Under the GENIUS Act, Congress clearly approved and adopted this authority for such institutions.
