Aman Zaidi asked "Who is making the decision for the LGBTQ+ community in your organization?" During our conversation on the #Coachee #Diaries podcast, our guest Aman Zaidi an advocate for DEIB raised a thought provoking question on representation from the LGBTQ+ community on workplace decisions concerning them. Are organisations treating DEIB as a check box activity, just to showcase we are a DEIB complaint? I recalled one of the shocking & sad incidents with one of my clients, The organisation a MNC with presence in 3 continents and yet the India business CEO told me that they #DON'T #hire from the #LGBTQ+ community because their employees "#may #not" be comfortable with sharing a bathroom with them. To me, this didn't seem like an employee issue rather the attitude of the CEO themselves. And this begs a very basic question - Who is making all this decision? Is there some representation from the #LGBTQ+ community in this decision making? Who is benefiting from this decision? Is #DEI just a check mark activity for most organisations or are we really striving to live by what we preach? I had the privilege of speaking with Aman Zaidi - One of the foremost advocates of DEIB. It was only through Aman's session that I overcame my #biased opinion of the community & was open to accept them for who they truly are - Fellow human beings.
