You're rebranding your company. How do you ensure you don't lose your brand heritage in the process?
Rebranding. A fresh bold start, or a delicately balanced preservation of the past? Be careful of the "new look, same great taste" trap. For B2B tech brands, it can be a total miss on a massive opportunity. After all, you're rebranding because your market has fundamentally shifted, you have new buyers, or you offer a new product (services) portfolio. The old brand simply doesn't reflect who you are any more. That said, branding is an existential feat. When we launched the new SoftwareOne brand in 2023, we affirmed our seven core values and elevated the origin story of our company's roots that shaped those values. This was key to change management, where we had to win acceptance and advocacy from our 9000 employees and 65000 customers.

Your team struggles to grasp complex strategic plans. How can you simplify them for better understanding?
If your team struggles with complex strategic plans, I've found it always helps to go back to the beginning. What are goals of the business? - revenue growth, entry into new markets, product innovations, exceptional customer experience. What's the contribution your team (function, LOB, region)? - a share of overall outcomes, or a critical piece of delivery capability? What are SMART goals that align? You can then translate this rubric into a clear annual plan with milestones. Communicate simply to other parts of your organization on how you're integral to their overall success. And revisit the commitment regularly as part of "the rhythm of the business". This gets your strategy off the shelf and into action. Let it rip!
