Healthtech-focussed VC firm W Health Ventures has launched its second fund with a target corpus of $70 Mn (INR 609 Cr) for its second India-focused fund to back healthcare startups in the country. W Health Ventures, in collaboration with 2070 Health, will use the fund to build 8–10 early-stage healthcare startups over the next four years, said managing partner Pankaj Jethwani. They plan to invest ₹26–40 crore ($3–5 million) in each company, with extra funds set aside for future rounds. India’s surprising global export may not be in SaaS or fintech, but 1,000 Cr healthcare machine Ultrahuman Ultrahuman builds deep-tech hardware. For health. In India. Those three put together have the odds of RCB winning the IPL. The product is hard to understand. When UH launched in 2020, its revenue was a paltry 60L. Competition was from Apple, Garmin, Oura and other global giants. Far from being a global export, it looks set to die a science project But wearing an insight machine reveals an explosive global brand, built chip by chip from India Mohit Kumar and Vatsal Singhal started RoadRunnr in 2015. Doing that era’s q-commerce, RoadRunnr became Runnr, acquired by Zomato in 2017. Runnr powered Zomato’s shift from just menus to delivery, as Swiggy exploded. By 2019, Mohit and Vatsal left. In Thailand, Mohit observed curious behaviour. Athletes, not diabetics, were wearing continuous glucose monitors, or CGMs. As the duo came back together to start something, a health operating system was needed. Ultrahuman was born in 2019 to stream realtime glucose data. The founders had 0 hardware experience. India had barely any ecosystem. Health was an afterthought. Yet crazy ideas are the birth of innovation. As COVID struck in 2020, health became paramount. By 2021 two years later, UH launched its Cyborg. The waitlist exploded, and investor interest resulted in a $18M round. After 3 long years, UH had reached 14,000 paid users with 140,000 on the waitlist. Yet, it just had reached 8 Cr of revenue, burning almost 25 Cr. But the foundations were building. UH positioned itself for proactive health management. Aspirational usage was picked up by digitally savvy millenialls. By ’23, people wanted to deconstruct their body systems. Yet, the price of 1.3L per annum only attracted elite athletes. Recognizing this, the team started to expand its target segment. UH launched a Smart Ring R1, for CGMs. By 23, revenue grew to 30 Cr and UH was about to explode As US leader Oura sued UH for patent violations, it started to turn heads. UH’s business shot up. AOV doubled to 30,000 from 15,000 in just 2 years. By FY24, revenue reached 100 Cr. It raised another round. Without marketing, it broke into the US. Setup a manufacturing facility. UH launched a retail store. UH’s Air Ring did so well, it did 90% of sales. UH reached an astonishing 800 Cr of ARR in FY25, faster than anyone including Oura UH’s software + hardware + classy positioning continued to update. From just restricted to India, it had a become a global consumer juggernaut. Using biomarkers, Ultrahuman had entire health profiles to interpret the body. Systems also tracks cortisone, ketones and lactates for stress, metabolism and performance. UH sells in 60+ countries, truly global. As it scales in 2025, it is a shining example of a deep tech company built from India to the world. Home services startup Pronto has raised $11 Mn in its Series A round, co-led by General Catalyst and Glade Brook Capital, with participation from existing investor Bain Capital Ventures. The funding comes just months after the Gurugram-based 10-minute on-demand home services platform closed a $2 Mn seed extension from Bain Capital Ventures. Pronto plans to use the fresh capital to expand into Mumbai and Bengaluru over the next 12–18 months, while training and onboarding 10,000 additional service professionals. The startup currently offers instant, scheduled, and recurring house help services, ranging from sweeping and utensil washing to laundry assistance and kitchen cleaning. Medyseva, a healthtech startup founded in 2022 by Dr. Vishesh Kasliwal, secured INR 4 Cr in seed funding led by Unicorn India Ventures. It aims to expand phygital healthcare clinics in Tier II and III cities, enhance its telemedicine platform, and boost patient outreach. Direct-to-consumer (D2C) mental healthtech startup InnerGize has successfully raised INR 4.5 Cr in its pre-seed funding round, led by global early-stage venture capital firm Antler. Covid era money printing resulted in mega VC funds and bad venture economics. A lot of this is getting rolled back and will result in a brutal few years for the entire venture ecosystem. Here are 8 hard truths about where the market is headed and what it means for your startup. 1. Quantitative easing -> Rise of Mega funds - Covid era quantitative easing gave rise to cheap liquidity and rise of mega funds.  - Billion+ dollar funds went from 11 (2016) to 53 (2022) 2. Mega Funds -> Perverse economics - A 2% management fee on a billion dollar funds ($20M+ annual salary) likely created a bias towards AUM (asset under management) from DPI (distribution of paid in capital) 3. Mega Funds -> Inflated Valuations - Large funds resulted in massive investments & valuations  - Median series B pre money went from $80M (2019) to $260M (2022) - $500M series C rounds 4. Inflated Valuations -> Overhiring - 2019-2022: median VC‑backed tech start‑ups doubled FTEs and payroll  - 2023-2025: layoffs exceeded 300K amongst 1500 venture backed companies - Expect further 10%-15% reduction as boards mandate <1.5x burn multiples 5. Megafunds -> Unfortunate Founder Conditioning - Founders praised for larger burn and bigger checks not margins - Burn multiples > 3x becomes normal 6. Inflated Valuations -> Stalls M&A (2025) - While public SaaS multiples are 6x-8x ARR, late stage privates are still at 15x - Checks deployed in 2 years (2022) will take over 10 years to DPI - Almost no IPO in sight 7. Stalled M&A -> Shake Out (2025-2027) - Zombie funds: 30%+ of 2022 funds fail to raise follow ons - Board demands path to profit within 18 months - LPs demand distribution before follow on investments - Down rounds, repricing and roll ups becoming standard. Not good. 8. AI ventures -> Shrinking fund economics - AI is uncovering new and explosive growth opportunities - However, many AI ventures rocket to prominence but spawn a dozen clones in no time leading to a slowdown in growth  - Many AI ventures are forcing series A GPs to pay for <10% ownership or sit out forcing shrinking fund economics CONCLUSION Excess money printing led to risky investments disguised as “innovation premiums” We are going to see a purge and a reset Over capitalized funds will be forced to shrink or merge, bringing capital discipline and genuine value creation back into fashion While this illusion is breaking - Venture and fundraising isn’t dead by any means. It is just becoming healthier, more capital efficient and disciplined. Ventures that create genuine value will continue to get higher valuations, now more than ever.
